Probation To Confirmation

This is the story of 5 friends. All were from different parts of the country. Belongs to the different culture, different heritage & different background at home & in academics as well. Selection to a MNC via campus recruitment, brought them together in a same office. As days were passing, their training started extending for more hours. Assignments started increasing which demanded frequent brainstorming together. Eventually they started doing lunch, breakfast and tea-coffee together. As each one of them, was new to this city, weekend buddies to each other were none other than these five. In short, they all started spending more time together. As a result, in a very short time, they all became close friends.

3 months passed.Training period was over and they assigned to different teams and projects. Everyone's schedule got changed now. Gradually, coffee breaks, lunch times, fun time started shrinking. Short hi-hello overtook the place of earlier long chitchats. Instead of meeting daily they started seeing each other on weekend only. However, sometimes 'weekend deployments' started to be the somebody's reason as excuse as well. Slowly and naturally their friendship bond got weakened & started growing with new people i.e. their new teammates.

As everybody's upbringing was different, they all adopted their new team differently. Om was extrovert, so he quickly mixed up with his team. Jay was introvert, so he took some time to mingle. Jagdish's case was different. He was too jolly & open in nature but he was assigned to a team of very serious people. In Opposite, Sita was little shy , but she got enthusiastic & energetic teammates. Gita's scene was unique. She was the only person sitting at this office, all others were located at different cities within & outside country. As everyone's team was different so as their work load as well. Each one started working in different technologies. Though their meetings happened to be less frequently, they were not stopped entirely. So that whenever they met, sharing of food, feelings, problems, happiness were still there. They were aware about the happenings in each other's life.

One year passed and that day arrived. It was the day of annoucement regarding their confirmation. They were excited but nervous too. Afterall, whole year's performance was about to open & appear publicly. Everyone was eager to know who among these five made it to the final list of confirmed candidates.

Everybody was topper at their college. They all were shortlisted among many candidates from their colleges and selected by rigorous interview process. All were equally brilliant but still at the end of probation their evaluation card was different. Does it mean, the one who topped, was bestest among all or the the one at lowest rank was wrong choice? Not really.

The person who was at low technical score was not necessarily untalented. The team, he was part of, was carrying a high benchmark for themselves. The one who was not able to showcase the results according to their leads, was not given comparable opportunity in reality (Not purposefully but unknowingly). The one who got feedback to work upon the people skills was not the shy or introvert one. It was just the language barrier. In others case it was the transition time delay from a small town lifestyle to a metro city culture. Indeed, there were few who carried good luck. They got best mentor, best team, best projects which helped them to squeeze the best out of themselves.

In simple words, everybody's journey was different. Everybody's learning was different. Some started working on weakness while others focused on strengths. Somebody got passion or clear roadmap easily while other was still struggling to identify it. But despite all this, everyone understood 3 things perfectly.

   1. Time never stops for anyone. So we have to run to match the speed of the corporate-train.

   2. Everyone’s journey is different. So if we follow another's itenary, we will never reach to our desired destination.

   3. It will be difficult for us to set our own goals based on the successes and failures of others. We must set our own goals in order to make self-imagined 'future us' by comparing 'present us' with the 'past us'.
